As an all year round all weather open water swimmer I am quite accustomed to the unpredictability of the wide open sea. I have been swimming daily at dawn for the past 5 years and have been lucky in my adventures to encounter all types of wild and wonderful sea conditions alongside some pretty extraordinary Cornish weather and wildlife. I am a front crawl swimmer and with my face in the water I regularly enjoy checking out the wonders that lurk below me. When I am not in my snorkel mask I couldn't be without my Aqua Sphere wide lens goggles for improved visibility. I take my camera on most of my swims as I am usually lucky enough to encounter an inquisitive grey seal or two. The sea temperatures tend to vary throughout the seasons living in Cornwall. We can experience as warm as 18 degrees Celsius in the summer months with a drop to as low as 5 degrees Celsius in the winter. I am also an ambassador for Swim Secure and a passionate advocate for swim safety. Advice can be found on the Royal National Lifeboat Institute site where they give specific advice on open water swimming. There is also the Royal Life Saving Society with a special section on Winter Water Safety.
