As an experienced open water swimmer and qualified BSAC snorkel instructor I am accustomed to the unpredictability of the open sea. I have been swimming and snorkelling for the past 6 years and have been lucky in my adventures to encounter all types of wild and wonderful sea conditions alongside some pretty extraordinary Cornish weather and wildlife. I take my camera on all of my trips as I am usually lucky enough to encounter an inquisitive grey seal or two. The sea temperature tends to vary throughout the seasons living in Cornwall. We can experience as warm as 18 degrees Celsius in the summer months with a drop to as low as 5 degrees Celsius in the winter. As an ambassador for Swim Secure I am also a passionate advocate for swim safety. Advice to enjoy the ocean safely can be found on the Royal National Lifeboat Institute site where they give specific advice on open water swimming. There is also the Royal Life Saving Society with a special section on Winter Water Safety.
